Participating in a FanCC Netbook

The FanCC and its netbooks need you ! If you would like to see more of the netbooks' material published, please help us with some of your contributions.
As already outlined elsewhere on this site, there is basically three ways of participating in a netbook: as a submitter, as a team member, or just by making comments on the FanCC mailing list. But in any case, remember this is volunteer work ! FanCC members do not make any money out of the netbooks, and work for the sheer love of the game, as a hobby, not a professional job !

Submitter:

Submitters are of the most importance, simply because they produce the material for the netbooks. They send their creations to the relevant netbook teams (see team leader's address on the Netbooks page, or on the relevant websites), then wait for those teams to review their work if need be. You should note that having several people comment a submission really helps refine and improve it, even when it is already a quality work. Note also that those who submit a lot of material often tend to join the relevant netbooks teams.

Why do I have to sign a permission agreement ?
The purpose of the FanCC is to publish free d20 supplements that are compliant with the OGL. As such, submitters must sign a permission agreement so they take responsibilities for their own submissions. You have to agree to release them under the OGL, and anything you submit must be original work. That is, your work will become for the most part Open Gaming Content, and could be used thereafter by anyone freely, with just having to credit you as the original author. (For example, Moongoose Publishing used several classes and feats from our netbooks in some of their commercial products.)

Team Members:

The role of a netbook's team is to collect material on a given subject (classes, feats, spells, etc.) and put it together into a quality product. As such, a netbook's team usually requires not only reviewers, but also artists, editors (who know how to format a text into a fine presentation), and webmasters. Generally, most team members are interested in these activities for only a limited period of time. As such, there is an important turnover, and it is probable that at any time any team would welcome you among them.

Why a review process ?
Each netbook normally has a team of several reviewers whose job is to review the submissions the netbook gets. These reviewers should know the d20 game mechanics well. Their role is to give useful advice to the authors, so these can improve their submission until it becomes a truly useful addition to the game. However, the authors are not obliged to change their submissions as suggested by the netbook team. They usually have a final say on their submission. So, when the author declares his submission finished, the team rates it (1 to 5), to give an indication about its power, complexity, etc., to the readers (although, not all netbooks abide by such ratings). Note lastly, that team members do not need a contributor ID, which is required only of submitters (for legal reasons).

FanCC mailing list:

Many people don't wish (or don't have the time) to submit anything, or to become team members. However, even in this case you could help us simply by giving us your feedback. After all, this work is made for you, so your encouragement, comments, or criticism could be useful to the relevant netbooks' teams and authors. You may send an email to the team leaders or post on the FanCC yahoougroup mailing list (subscribe on the homepage), but in any case don't hesitate to give your input !

Other help:

If you have a website of your own, you could also help us by putting a link from your site to the FanCC. Download here a pack of banners and logos of various sizes if you wish to do so.
